Talk to Gynecologist on Gestational Diabetes
Asking for Wife, Female, 28 years old, Karachi
My wife is in 31st week of pregnancy. All has been fine till now. But she is doubtful that she is having gestational diabetes. She has eaten so much sweet things in recent months. Her BSF tests in ist n 2nd month were perfect (75 and 85). But Dr didn't prescribe any test later. Bp remains 110/70. Weight is 63kg. From Accu Check fasting readings in last 2 days are 110 and 104. 1-2 hour after meals it is 140 to 160. Is it alarming? Which lab tests should be done to rule out gestational diabetes?

Fasting blood and random blood glucose both are dearranged... Kindly get 75 g oral glucose tolerance test with proper protocol then consult me for management of her diabetes. Inshallah she will be fine with oral medications and dietary advise

Thank you. Sir is it safe to to Oral GTT in 31st week? As this test is usually prescribed be 24 to 28 weeks.

Yes.. It is totally safe.. It is a simple test..kindly go with fasting of 8 to 10 hour

No-infact its done at 28wks for diagnosis in suspicious and high risk cases-diagnosis is important fr further pregnancy management and setting time of delivery...hopefully maternal steroids hv been administered as per protocol by now...
