In 1958, a private department for outpatients was established at the Mayo hospital in Lahore for government officials. In 1960 it was transformed into 55 beds and was called the Wahdat hospital. It has medical and surgical facilities, as well as laboratory and X-ray machines, which were later changed to "Services Hospital".
In 1977, the capacity of the bed increased to 192 (50% for the general public) and it became the training hospital of Allama Medical College Iqbal (AIMC). In 1986, several additional buildings were built, and the bed was raised to 904. In 1995, AIMC moved to the new campus of Jinnah Hospital. Then, services hospital were added to the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) with an increase in bed capacity of 1096. Services Hospital Lahore was declared an "independent institution" in 1999. PGMI has recently joined General Lahore Hospital.
The Emergency and Trauma Centre was set up in 2002 and is now being upgraded and modernized under the Chief Minister's initiative of "Strengthening of Emergency Medical Services". This program has been approved by the board of directors for a total of SR. 80 million.
In 2003, the Punjab government established a Self-Funded Services Institute Medical Sciences (SIMS) exclusively for medical students and hospital services. It is planned to build SIMS residences and residences for hospital staff at the PGMI headquarters and on the main campus of the SIMS hospital. SIMS, temporarily identified by the Medical and Dental Council of Pakistan, was located on the campus of the Graduate Medical Institute, which administers the faculty of PGMI. In accordance with the requirements of the Dental Medical Council of Pakistan, the Board of Directors of SIMS / Services Hospital established an office of the Department of Education and related employees, controlled by the Ministry of Finance. Route 6-Birdwood has been passed to SIMS.
