Asking for Self, Male, 9 years old, Islamabad
I was wondering if it is possible for a 9year old boy to develop urinary incontinence. My son generally has a habit of holding his pee just because he hates the hassle of going to the bathroom because it will interrupt his play (not a good habit I know) Sometimes it happens that he tells me a few drops of pee leaked in his pants and then he'll goto the toilet. But a few days ago he said that sometime when I laugh or sneeze my pee leaks then too. So I was wondering if incontinence is an issue in kids and how should it be resolved.
The description which you have given is quite common. Many children do this. They can leak urine when their bladder is extremely full.
He is 9 years old and should understand if you explain that he needs to go to loo well in time.
Timed voiding should sort out this problem. Should it persist even after he goes to loo on a regular basis, that would be the time to consult a doctor.
