Talk to Pediatrician on Child Age 2 Years Constipation

person-avatar

Asking For Other, Female 2, Peshawar

My daughter aged about 2 years and 5 months now used to pass stool after every 3 to 4 days usually and that too with very difficulty. She used to cry a lot while passing stool and the stool checked after is very hard. We are giving her a lot of water, Fruits, Vegetables (both in raw form like Cocumber and cooked) , whole wheat or brown Flour Rote mashed in Salaans to eat and digest easily. She is using NIDO 1+ Milk thrice a day daily(6 ounces each time) but still her issue hasn't been resolved yet. Yesterday she cried badly while passing stool (not comfortable at all for her) and it seems that she is now afraid of passing stool as soon as the time gets near. Pl advice. Thanks

Since when is your daughter suffering from these complaints? It is good that you are giving her fibre rich foods. If the constipation is long standing you can give her Syrup Duphalac which contains lactulose in a dose of 2.5 mls to 10 mls twice daily. Adjust the dose to produce daily soft stools. Treatment may be needed for several weeks and tapered over months. Some children need a stronger laxative while other require some tests to rule out an organic cause for constipation.

Continue giving her fibre rich foods and try the syrup prescribed. If it does not help your child may need some tests as the condition is there since birth.

Reduce her milk to 1 glass daily and focus on her water intake that should be 8-10 glass of water daily. Use glycerin tubes for her constipation. Avoid Shimlamirch in veggies, any noodles or bakery stuff, jellies, chips ,banana. Give oil massage to her belly and back.
Try these and do let me know about her change in condition. :)
