Asking for Brother, Male, 15 years old, Saddar Karachi
Hi, my younger brother of age 15 has become very aggressive. He is playing an online game (fortnite) which is making his behavior very angry. He has already spent alot of money on his gaming setup and now he's demanding for much expensive gaming consoles. Now if we refuse to buy him anything he acts very violently. We are really irritated by his attitude since he is never getting satisfied with his games. Whenever he loses a game he blasts into anger. This has been a case since the last six months and we have no idea how to deal with it. We have tried alot to convince him to stop playing these games but he never gets convinced. In fact, he doesn't get angry at any other thing instead of his games. Now we are really confused that should we buy him a newer console or should we refuse him.
Thank You for consulting Marham.
As for as this particular scenario is concerned, assessment is required to find out the actual reason behind his behaviour, following areas are worth to be coverd:
A) Looking into his prior physical and emotional development ( Developmental milestones)?
B) Dynamics in the family (focusing on the relation ships between patient and sibling, parents)?
C) Peer group relationships?
D) Family history of Psychiatric disorders?
E) Does he use any Substance of abuse?
F) Does he has any history of Physical or sexual abuse?
G) His academic records? Feedback from the concerned teachers? School environment? And many more will be the areas of concern.
Right now he is in adolescent age group, we can not point towards any diagnostic entity. But to control symptoms its better to go for the assessment rather than the blind therapy?
