Asking For Self, Male, 25 Years old, Lahore
I have been smoking on and off since 2014. But I was never addicted, I quit whenever I wanted to. And since COVID started in Pakistan, I smoked 4-5 times in whole last year. But now there’s a little, very little pain in my throat (maybe because I’m thinking about it too much) and I am afraid whether I have cancer or not. Please tell me what are the chances and signs that I have it. And what should I do?

Considering the history of 6-7 years of smoking, and mild throat pain, I can assure you that it's not cancer.
It usually takes decades before smoking can result in lung cancer.
The main symptoms of lung cancer include:
- cough that doesn’t go away after 2 or 3 weeks
- long-standing cough that gets worse
- chest infections that keep coming back
- coughing up blood
- pain when breathing or coughing
- persistent breathlessness
- persistent tiredness or lack of energy
- loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
Over thinking and excessive worrying about minor things needs assessment.
Now, what you can do is :we can talk and rule out if such worrying thoughts are temporary or due to anxiety disorder that may need medical attention.
