Talk to Pediatrician on Hydrocephalus Diagnosed During 8th Month Of Pregnancy
Asking for Wife, Male, 21 years old, Karachi
My wife is 33rd week pregnant. The to be born baby is diagnosed with Hydrocephalus during 30th week of pregnancy, and currently in 33rd week of pregnancy the dilated in ventricles measures 22mm which was 18mm in 30th week. We were consulting in Aga Khan Hyderabad till 32nd week and they never told any such issue until a few days back, and they asked us to take the case to Aga Khan Karachi. This is our first expectancy after 3 years of marriage.

I am sorry to hear about your unborn child. Hydrocephalus is a serious condition and needs to be managed expertly. Congenital (By birth) Hydrocephalus usually has high morbidity (higher chances of having short and long term complications).

Due to serious and long term complications, termination of pregnancy in early weeks is usually advised. As you are now already in your 33rd week and termination may be a difficult decision, discuss this with your Obstetrician. If a decision to continue with pregnancy is agreed, further management of baby can only be advised after delivery/detailed assessment of baby.
