person-avatar

Asking for Other, Male, 1 years old, Islamabad

I have changed formula of my son and since 2 days he has not passed stool. He's constipated and being very fussy. Not taking milk too. What can be given to relief the constipation??

Pediatrician in shorkot - Dr. Syeda Mehr Batool

Changing formula can not be a direct cause of constipation. Milk in any form if taken in excess can cause constipation. Please follow the following steps.
1. Reduce milk intake.
2. Add fiber to his diet. Apples, pears, peaches are rich in fiber. Add ispaghula husk in his diet if you can manage it.
3. Avoid all products made out of fine flour/ maida. Use red chakki flour, avoid bakery items, pasta noodles etc or take in moderation.
4. For immediate relief you can give Lactulose (LILAC) syp.. volume in ml equal to his weight for eg if he weighs 10kgs, give 10ml at night.
5. If you feel that his abdomen is distending bor the baby starts vomiting, please take him to the nearest hospital.
Best of luck!
