This is called "Apnoeic and Cyanotic Spells", during such a phase the blood vessels in the brain becomes constricted with the result the flow of blood within the veins n arteries is reduced , along with the oxygen carrying capacity is also decreased and thus the baby goes in to the breath holding spell or becomes blue as the flow of blood to the vital tissues / parts of the brain within the blood vessels is reduced + the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood is also decreased.
