Is he breastfeeding? It is not necessary to hear sounds, if he sleeps well afterwards. You can burp while lying down. You may check on YouTube or may be come online.
as already mentioned not necessary to hear the burp sound eveytime . is baby sleeps well and dose kot vomit he doing well . just keep a thin pillow under headvand shoulder so that head end is slightly elivated .
mother feed is always the best as it has the right consistancy of water and fat due to which baby is satisfied and slerps well and less colic . as for top feed is easily digested and has less fat content .
it is not necessary to have burp every time you feed your baby.

May be the best is to give Breastfeeding and worst is any other feed. The feed depends on weight but generally it would be 12-16 Oz/24 hours.

For burping no time is fixed but usually a couple of minutes suffice.
