Assalamu alaykum. My son age 7 goes to toilet 4 or 5 times daily. Most of the time stool is either unformed or semi formed. Un digested food is evident in stool. His father exactly had this issue in his childhood. His father and paternal uncle also have ibs diarrhea. Child is also very sensitive and a bit hyper. Gets annoyed too soon and gets irritated. Isnt social as well. May be some sort of depression as well.does he need lab tests or any medicines or just yogurt and banana diet.

Wa Alaikum As Salam He needs to be investigated and examined . We need to know his growth parameters and physical examination IBS is not well defined in Pediatric age group So we have to rule out organic causes of this condition.

Well first of all we need to know his growth parameters. Is he growing ? What about his weight and height for his age ? It could be a malabsorption syndrome which is a group of disorders Based on physical exam Appropriate tests can be advised. There are many tests for malabsorption diseases based on what type is it ? And for this you have to visit your doctor for proper physical exam to identify most probable cause and the proceed for most appropriate testing
