person-avatar

Asking for Father, Male, 60 years old, Abbottabad

Please tag to an orthopedic surgeon.. My father age 60 had femur shaft fracture in Dec 2019 about 6 months ago where thigh bone has been broken in a angled line as shown in initial attached x ray. Dr. Implanted a rod with support in knee. In first 2 months he suffered from anxiety, but now he just feel uncomfortable in knee when he walk fastly or go up stairs. Now I attached today's x report could you please tell me the stage of healing process? Today one orthopedic surgeon advised that rod need to remove after couple of weeks because this rod is Biger than the usual used for these surgeries. But the surgeon who implanted gave us time period of one year to remove the rod. .should we go for rod removal? rod. I am attaching prescription and x ray in comments.

it's retrograde femur nailing. not a very poor procedure as it can damage knee articular cartilage. the nail is bent and as it seems there is shining callus which is going into consolidation. if weight bearing is painful then use a zimmer frame otherwise no issue. remove the nail after 1 year post op

Do not go for full weight bearing..use crutches for walk or just do 50% of weight bearing..as it's not healed yet.
