person-avatar

Asking For Wife, Female 28, Islamabad

My wife is pregnant 37weeks (2nd pregnancy) , her Amniotic fluid is 9.1, her Dr has advised to go for induction on 38th week. Our concern is due to last pregnancy her amniotic fluid was 9.5 and first 2 doses of inductions didn't work and after 3rd dose she managed to deliver. Please share your advise.

The doctor who has examined her is in a better condition to decide. Sometimes we have to give more than one dose of medicine to start the process of labour as last time your wife needed 3 doses.

What actually your concern is? If you are worried about time of delivery then nobody can predict it that how she will respond to induction. If she has delivered safely and vaginally last time then chances are bright about normal delivery but no body can predict about course of labour.

We wish to wait for the process of labor to start naturally, instead of going for induction. Just want to know if it is possible to wait for that with this water level.

Also liquor decreases with advanced pregnancy so it's also possible that it will get further reduced after one or two weeks, which will further put the baby at risk

Amount of liquor is 9.1 which is slight on the lower side. And as your wife needed induction last time so this time most likely she will need again. If you want to wait for natural labour, it's upto you and you can discuss with your doctor. But that will not also guarantee of smooth delivery. Better to go with your doctor's advice as she is the best person to talk about.

You can wait for 1 week but with some precautions, get her Ctg done daily and scan after 1 week for biophysical profile and amniotic fluid. If AFI decrease further then go for induction on 39 weeks if it remain same then you can wait till 40. Secondly chances of normal delivery are high as she has normal delivery before but still nothing can be said beforehand and without proper examination
