Asking for Mother, Female, 54 years old, Karachi
Assalam o alaikum Can anyone tell me whether my mother needs cataract surgery for her left eye?
This is incomplete prescription with most of the details missing.. Showing only that she has cataract.. But what's her vision n whether she needs surgery or not cannot be told without checkup
If her vision is 6/6 with +1 glasses and she is comfortable than no she doea not require surgery at the moment. Cataract surgery is an elective surgery and dependent on pt's need.
at this stage, this decision can be made by patient that she is comfortable with glasses or not.she might have 6/6 vision with glasses but also she might b having glare and cloudy vision. so detail examination is needed and decision of surgery can be made after diacussion and according to patient's need

Dr needs to examine patient thoroughly before advising cataract surgery to any patient.

What if two doctors do not mention cataract in left eye and a third doctor mentions cataract to be operated? (This third doctor has operated my mother's right eye cataract recently)
Should we see another good ophthalmologist?

Requiring surgery or not if cataract is present is dependent on the vision and patients requirements. I personally tell the patients to have surgery when i think the delay in surgery can cause complications, rest i leave it upto the patient to decide

Sir, the cataract was mentioned for right eye. Only 1 attached document mentioning "left" is for left eye.
Other images might have description of right eye in which cataract was found
We went to a local eye clinic and then to LRBT. Both doctors suggested cataract operation for right eye.
My mother undergone right eye surgery this week and the doctor (at 3rd hospital) who did surgery has asked to undergo left eye cataract surgery toi. He didn't mention cataract in left eye prior to surgery.
What should we do now?

Get a 2nd opinion as well... Most probably she wud be having cataract in left eye as well but the decision to get it removed lies with the surgeon or the patient's need.. Usually the type of cataract mentioned is pscc which hampers vision mostly in bright light or for near work
