Talk to Ent Specialist on Deviated Septum

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 39 years old, Tarbela

My nasal septum is deviated towards left. About 4 to 5 years ago, I visited a ENT specialist to discuss about my deviated nasal septum. He asked me if I have any problem in breathing and I said "no." He said there is no need for surgery, and you should use Betnesol N drops. I used the drops for a few weeks and then stopped.

Now I feel that I am more comfortable when my right nostril is open and left one is clogged. When the left nostril is open and the right nostril is clogged, I feel a difference but I would not say it is difficulty in breathing. I just feel more comfortable and oxygenated when the right nostril is open.

Should I restart using Betnesol N drops in this situation to avoid any further complications in the future?

Betnesol N drops contain a steroid and an antibiotic. They are not intended for long time use. Alternately you can use Xynosine nasal spray, one spray each nostril preferably before going to bed in both nostrils, not more than 20 days. Then stop and see what happens. If the symptoms recur then get an X-ray PNS and consult an ENT Surgeon.

Important thing to consider here is whether you've allergic symptoms from nose or not? Second if there's a significant nasal blockage then you'll have a continuous nasal blockage on one side. Because of nasal deviation you can have feeling of one nostril working and other closed. It alternates in both the sides. I'd recommend using nasal spray for atleast about 45 days. Use MOMETASONE nasal spray, two puffs on each side of nose and continue 45 days. See the result and update. How to use nasal spray in proper way, check on YouTube. ( Don't use betnesol if using Mometasone nasal spray).
