Talk to Dermatologist on Face Acne Since Long
Asking for Self, Male, 17 years old, Karachi
I'm having face acne since long. Went to doctor and they prescribed me Maxinoin (Isotretinoin) 20mg capsule along with acneez cream & clinacin gel to apply on face 2 times cream and 2 times gel a day. And told it will take 3months to cure. Now I read serious side effects of this capsule on internet. Don't know that this medecine was given for beginning or for whole period. Its difficult to visit again as there is a long queue of patients. Is it OK to take this medecine daily for 3months? And apply 4 times creams and gel in a single day?

I've already consulted a skin specialist and I'm taking his prescribed medecine from a month and it's a 3months course so I don't wanted to change any sort of medecine.
as I asked above just let me know is it OK to take Maxinoin (isotretinoin) daily for 3months at the age of 17?

Because of the serious side effects, this medicines is reserved for someone with very bad acne not responding to other oral and topical preparations. In my opinion you should stop that medicine, wait about 7-10 days and then come to any of my clinics so that I can evaluate and prescribe you appropriate meds.

isotretinoin is a very good acne treatment but reserved for those where indicated like in moderate to severe acne and significant scarring...like every medicine it do has side effects...but the severest are the rarest...we prescribe it quite frequently...and our patients tolerate it quite well...we do check LFTs and lipid profile before starting it with ongoing monitoring...
I don't agree with the topical treatment prescribed...use clinacin gel in morning and evening...and use adapco cream at night in a very small amount...about a pea size in one application..don't use acneez...I guess you should consult a certified dermatologist regarding decision about isotretinoin...

it is safe in 17 years of age...it is usually prescribed according to weight ...and takes almost 6 months to complete dose
