Talk to Anesthetist on Epidural Analgesia For Labour

Hi i m also mbbs ...its my 5th pregnancy.first 2 are boys healthy and with me.i m.obese.i have both n.v.ds ....my 2nd nvd was by induction through prostein.and it was horrible labour.thts y aftr tht i.aborted twice. But now i m.36 weeks 3days...my.obstrn saying as first time my b.p.started to raise so.i must have induction again .so tht p.i.h do.not harm baby and aftr 37completed weeks just come n deliver it. Plz guide me i want analgesia this time.she said ok it will b arranged.but plz tell me epidural.is asafe or not.should i.opt for it in atdbd.abbotttabad
May Almighty Allah bless u and ur family. Epidural analgesia for the pragnency is absolutely safe. It is our common practice in Lahore. It was said by the pediatricians in the past that epidural causes fetal distress but There r lot of studies regarding epidural for labor analgesia. All r negative for fetal diatress. U may go for it fearlessly.

Epidural is safe analgesia until and unless gven by a safe anesthetist. Lumbar epidurals are easier and safer and can be done by every consultant anesthetist. Its the thoracic epidral which is tricky and not a cup of tea for the unskilled. Make sure the guy who prforms it onto you is a consultant. Not a medical officer but a person who has cleared fcps or mcps at least. Lumbar epidurals are safer and excellent for pain relief during labor and the best option available at the moment. I hope you go through this pregnancy pain free after it. Ask your gynaecologist to arrange an anesthetist. Complication rate for it is also pretty low so do not worry.
Main complication in lumbar epidural is a dural tap. Which results in post dural punctural headache or PDPH. I hope you go through this pregnancy safe and sound. All prayers with you and your baby.

Anesthetist will have to stay there with me till end is this true.
Lahore ia big city.people make me fear to opt this in atdbd.
Those people include only doctors.
And charges will be 10000 rupess.
Labour will be extendes etcc..
..
But as u say its common in lahore u made my fear less than before.
